How did you get into the beer industry? Why does beer matter to you?
I got into beer industry first as a consumer. Then after being exposed to different beer styles I got interested on how vast the beer styles are. Then by exploring ingredients and different geographical origins I was determined to make beer emulating what I had been experiencing. I decided to dedicate my life and earn a living by making beer for others, an experience that yields a result that is easy for others to appreciate. I have worked in other industries but none like brewing has the effect of interest, enjoyment, and curiosity all at the same level for the consumer in which I, as part of the brewing team, can relate with the same intensity.
Why do you judge at the World Beer Cup? What does judging at the World Beer Cup mean to you?
I want to be part of a world class event and give back all my years of experience into something tangible for other brewers. For me judging is a satisfaction. It challenges and expands my own perceptions and knowledge, it allows me to become a better brewer, and it lets me learn and share with other fellow judges. Getting to judge at the World Beer Cup is the greatest milestone for a judge and brewer, and something I can feel very proud of.
What else would you like the world to know?
Beer has made travel the world! The best beer is the one that doesn't travel. Travel for the beer, don't make the beer travel to you.
