How did you get into the beer industry? Why does beer matter to you?
During my "victory lap" semester of college I took a brewing science course, fell in love, and changed course from a career in environmental health to brewing and fermentation sciences. I found much of my education transferred well to this new path. Beer matters to me because it is the perfect and beautiful intersection of science, technology, history, culture, and food. I find my mind and tastebuds are able to understand the world better through this sudsy and unifying liquid.
Why do you judge at the World Beer Cup? What does judging at the World Beer Cup mean to you?
It's an honor to judge at the World Beer Cup! I feel lucky to sit amongst some of the most brilliant and kind minds of the industry, learning from one another, all with the goal of helping others elevate their brewing chops and celebrate their creativity and quality. These competitions, and in particular WBC with it being on an global scale, are important for showing the our peers and the world that craft beer is a sophisticated beverage for the people, by the people.
