How did you get into the beer industry? Why does beer matter to you?
I entered the world of beer during my college years–15 years ago–by chance. My sister told me they needed a salesperson at the biggest beer store in town–they had around 400 national and imported labels–and I went for an interview because I loved Chimay Blue and Guinness, haha. They hired me and introduced me to several books about beer. I remember it was love at first sight because a gastronomic world was presented to me, and I haven't stopped studying beer since then. For me, beer is much more than a drink; it's part of human history, it's intense and full of meaning, it allows us to travel through different cultures and, above all, it makes us respect the entire chain involved behind the glass.
Why do you judge at the World Beer Cup? What does judging at the World Beer Cup mean to you?
The World Beer Cup is the most important beer competition in the world, and for me it's an incredible learning opportunity because we'll be in contact with people from all over the world, not only exchanging experiences, but also judging with wisdom, knowledge, love, and respect to the breweries that submit samples. Even when I was selling beer in my first year in the brewing industry, I would look at the breweries that won medals and my eyes would light up with joy, and I couldn't wait to try them because I knew it would be an incredible experience.
What else would you like the world to know?
Being part of the World Beer Cup jury is a dream, and I will do my best as a judge. Beer is the most beautiful drink in the world, and I believe the excellent samples prove this every year.
