Antonio Ruiz
How did you get into the beer industry? Why does beer matter to you?
After a trip to Belgium and Germany, I joined the Spanish homebrewers association ACCE and started brewing. Over the years, I studied brewing in Spain and eventually set up four breweries, where I worked in just about every role imaginable, including head brewer and production manager. Along the way, I continued my education as a beer sommelier, a BJCP (National) judge, and a Certified Cicerone. Beer is my whole life, personal and professional.
Why do you judge at the World Beer Cup? What does judging at the World Beer Cup mean to you?
After nearly 10 years of judging in Spain, I wanted to take the step to judge internationally, with the goal of meeting more judges from different countries and at a higher level, so I could learn and grow—and hopefully contribute something as well. Having this experience at the World Beer Cup means everything to me and is a great honor.
What else would you like the world to know?
First time in Philly, first time in World Beer Cup, very excited, to know WBC family, and taste great beers.
