Important Deadlines

December 6, 2011. Registration Deadline (or earlier if capacity is reached). Entry fees are $150 if registered before or on this date based on availability. If space is still available in the competition after this date, entry fees are $170 per entry. Completed online registration, license agreement, and payment (in U.S. funds) must be received by this date. Confirmations will be emailed shortly after competition registration closes.

March 19-23, 2012. All entries must be received between these dates.

May 1-2, 2012. Competition Judging takes place in San Diego, CA, USA prior to the Craft Brewers Conference.

May 5, 2012. World Beer Cup winners announced at the Gala Reception & Awards Ceremony in San Diego, CA, USA.

General Shipping Information

Beers for the competition must arrive to Denver, Colorado in the United States between Monday, March 19 through Friday, March 23.

Below you will find important information about shipping your beers to the World Beer Cup. If your brewery is outside of the United States, there are some steps you must take to legally send your beers in for the competition. Please carefully read all of this information to ensure your beers make it to the World Beer Cup and on time.
You can ship your beers one of two ways:

Ship using the preferred freight forwarder - DB Schenker is once again the preferred customs and international freight forwarder of the World Beer Cup. Their Denver office is the coordinating office for the World Beer Cup, but they have set up collection points (see section below) around the world to help save you money on shipping and customs fees. DB Schenker is very familiar with the competition and can help make shipping to the competition easier.

Ship using your own courier – You do not have to use DB Schenker to ship your beers and may select any courier you chose, especially if your regularly ship beers to the United States. However, if you select a different shipper/broker, your shipment may be delayed. We have had problems in the past where beers get caught in US Customs. The Brewers Association is not able to clear your beers through customs, but Schenker may be able to (with additional fees).

US Brewery Shipping

Breweries located in the United States should ship the beers using a typical US based courier (i.e. FedEx or UPS) and ship to the Anheuser-Busch Denver warehouse address above. The beers must arrive in the same arrival window (March 19 - 23). All US breweries must still include the government warning labels if they are not currently on your bottles and use the quantities listed below. Beers can be dropped off in person to the Anheuser-Busch warehouse in Denver from 10 am to 3 pm on March 19 - 23. No entries will be accepted directly in San Diego, California. They must be shipped to Denver.

International Schenker Collection Points

In an effort to help lower shipping and customs fees for breweries outside of the United States, we have worked with DB Schenker to coordinate collection points at various locations throughout the world. Please contact one of the Schenker offices below to coordinate the shipping of your beers to the World Beer Cup.

If your beers are not to the collection point at this time, we cannot guarantee you these discounted prices.

We have worked with Schenker to negotiate discounted rates on shipping and custom clearance fees. Please note that the below shipping prices are listed in US dollars and are estimated prices. Also note that this is the price per case (24 beers). We only require 12 bottles for the competition so if you have more than one entry, you can put two entries per case. If you only have one entry, you prices may be higher or you can send extra beer if you prefer. (In addition to the shipping rates listed below, there are associated customs clearing rates that apply. These charges cover all fees required to clear your entries through customs.)

Compliance – Registering Your Brewery with the US FDA

The US government and FDA require that all importations of beer, including samples, are subject to FDA prior notice. Each entrant outside the US must file prior notice with the FDA. Step one is to register your facility. Visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website to register your facility.

Once your facility is registered and once you have contacted Schenker for transportation, the prior notice form must be filed. Please file prior notice with the FDA. Schenker Inc. can assist with this if needed.

Required Documents When Shipping

Breweries must send along a Commercial Invoice when shipping your beers to the competition from outside the United States. A Commercial Invoice includes:

Description, please also state samples next to description
Declared value for Customs purposes (make this amount less than $200 US Dollars)
Quantity of bottles
Unit measure in liters
FDA Registration Number
Country of Origin Very Important for Entrants Outside the United States
When completing your commercial invoice please list your FDA Facility Registration number on the invoice.

Labeling Your Beers

Brewing companies that normally bottle or can their products must send the beer in its commercially available container with the beer's standard label. All brewing companies must clearly label their entries with the name of the brewing company, the name of the beer, and the category and subcategory in which the beer will be judged. This information should match the World Beer Cup categories.
Download an example of how a label should look for your beer. Avery 5160 labels work best for printing out labels to attach to every bottle you are shipping.

All beers produced outside of the USA without USA federal label approval must attach a label with the following text to every bottle. Place one label on every bottle (not on the bottom) without covering any portion of your beer's label. The label should read as follows:Â

Government Warning: (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects. (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery and may cause health problems.

Packaging Your Beers
When shipping your beers, it is important to package your beers so they do not break during transit as there wonâ€™t be enough time to resend your samples. The World Beer Cup is not responsible for broken shipments. It is also important to make sure your beer is not exposed to light to ensure the best quality possible.

Place all bottles standing upright in the shipping container. All bottles should be placed in the same direction (lids up) and should avoid touching each other. Use your standard carriers to help keep bottles secure. Bubble wrap is best to keep beers separated.
Fill the shipping container to the top with packaging materials. Packing peanuts are NOT recommended. If used, make sure peanuts are enclosed in a plastic bag.
Wrap the original box in a plastic bag to avoid possible leakage and then place the box in a strong shipping box filled with more packing material.
DO NOT ship bottles from the same entry in different boxes.
Beers sent in coolers or other special containers will not be returned.
Beer containers may not stand more than 11.25 inches (28.5 centimeters) high and cannot have a width greater than 3.5 inches (9 centimeters).
Please feel free to ship extra bottles for our volunteer sorting crew that works hours in the cooler getting the competition beers sorted and inventoried for the competition.

Number of bottles/cans to be sent for the competition depends on the bottle/can size. Please use the following as a guideline:
